The Idaho Horror Film Festival is the only all women run horror film festival in the world and we decided to celebrate it this year. From our posters, to our guests and our programming have all been carefully planned to give added exposure to women.  I sincerely hope you join me next weekend.  This next Saturday, October 14th we are hosting a free “Women in Film" panel at Amsterdam Lounge at 2pm.  This panel will explore the unique challenges gender plays in the medium of film.  Bloody Marys and Mimosas will be available for purchase.  This event is 21+

This intimate discussion will feature:

Adrienne King- star of Friday the 13th,  and a huge advocate for women in film & especially in her genre. She’s always been supportive in her endeavors for women’s rights, victim’s rights and being the First Final Girl she’s become a touchstone & inspiration to so many ultimate survivors.

Deborah Voorhees- Before directing and writing screenplays, Voorhees worked in Hollywood as an actress for Paramount Pictures horror franchise Friday the 13th, Part V, CBS's nighttime drama Dallas, NBC's detective drama Riptide, the day-time soap Days of Our Lives and many others. Voorhees has also taught Acting for Film at Eastern New Mexico University as well as British Literature and journalism in Texas and New Mexico.

Izzy Lee-  is a writer, filmmaker, film festival programmer, and journalist for Birth. Movies. Death., Rue Morgue, Diabolique, Dread Central, and an editor at ScreenAnarchy.  When she’s not writing, she’s making scary little films, often from an outsider perspective with a socio-political bent. Her shorts have screened with American Psycho, Prevenge, Baskin, Antibirth, Tales of Halloween, They Look Like People, The Love Witch, The Lords of Salem, and The Sacrament.

Tye Lombardi- A Boise native, Tye moved to Los Angeles in 2004 and began her career in the film industry.   Her body of work includes assistant directing on over 20 feature films and television shows including “The Shield,” “7th Heaven,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “Sharknado 2” and season 3 of “Z Nation.”  Her costuming credits include the television show “Sons of Anarchy,” the films “Cowboys & Engines,” “The Co-Ed and the Zombie Stoner” “Hansel Vs. Gretel,” “Sharknado 3,” and most recently “Sharknado 5.”  
​Currently she is in Idaho working on her next adventure, a cookbook based on the practical effects she learned while in Hollywood and another screenplay (or two).

Ellen Smith- Graduated from University of Idaho with a  degree in Theatre Arts and then went on to receive a Juris Doctorate from UI. Ellen’s legal practice focuses on Entertainment Law and routinely works with local indie filmmakers as well as out of state producers. In 2012 Ellen began pursuing a career in acting and is an accomplished film, episodic series and commercial actress.

Angela DeRisio- Angela has been a stage actor since she was an itty bitty girl and made the move to film in her early 20’s. A recent graduate from Boise State, with a BA in Communication with an emphasis in Media Production and a certificate in Digital Cinema. Having produced a few local films, as well as directing her fair share of stage productions, Angela has recently delved into directing film. She directed a commercial for The Paramount Group for IHFF 2017, and is slated for an upcoming short psychological horror film. Angela believes that there is nothing more powerful than powerful women empowering powerful women, and is equally proud of and grateful for the women in the Idaho film community.

Sabina Dana Plasse- originally from Baltimore, Maryland, has been living in Sun Valley for more than 10 years and enjoys, above all, to connect people to one another. Besides writing, she launches start-up events and assists festivals, businesses, and entrepreneurs with publicity and marketing with her boutique firms Lift Talk PR and The Human Experience Arts & Management. She graduated from Bucknell University and has a masters degree from Johns Hopkins University and from American University in film and video—her passion.

Interactive Q&A: Horror Set Design & FX with Mick Strawn
IHFF 2017 is excited to have Mick Strawn (art director, set designer, FX creator) coming to talk about his experiences working on the sets of some of the most iconic horror and fantasy movies from the 80' and 90's. 

Join us for an interactive Q&A discussion with Mick about the process of creating art and effects heavy films. We will view clips and hear some hilarious stories about what went on behind-the-scenes during the productions of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, Mortal Kombat, The Adventures of Hercules, Roger Corman's Fantastic Four, Blade, and much more!
